Elton John Opens Up About Losing Vision Amid Health Battles

Elton John, the 77-year-old music icon, has revealed that an infection has left him temporarily blind in one eye and with limited vision in the other. During a gala performance of The Devil Wears Prada musical, for which he composed the music, John shared how his health challenges have impacted his life.

“I haven’t been able to come to many of the previews because, as you know, I have lost my eyesight,” John told the audience. “It’s hard for me to see it, but I love to hear it, and boy, it sounded good tonight.”

A Slow Road to Recovery

In September, John explained on social media that the infection was causing gradual recovery, writing, “I am healing, but it’s an extremely slow process, and it will take some time before sight returns to the impacted eye.” He also expressed gratitude to the medical team and his family, particularly his husband, David Furnish, whom he described as his “rock” during this time.

Facing Multiple Health Struggles

John has been candid about his broader health issues, noting at the October premiere of his documentary Elton John: Never Too Late that he has undergone numerous medical procedures. “To be honest, there’s not much of me left,” he joked, listing surgeries and removals of his tonsils, appendix, and knees. Despite the challenges, John added with resilience, “But I’m still here.”

Continuing to Inspire

While the health hurdles have slowed John down, his passion for music and storytelling remains unwavering. Fans continue to celebrate his legacy and are inspired by his determination to push forward.
