Timothée Chalamet recently sat down with the ever-iconic Nardwuar for an interview filled with quirky revelations and deep dives into music history. The 28-year-old actor, gearing up to portray Bob Dylan in the upcoming biopic A Complete Unknown, met the Human Serviette at Record Surplus in Los Angeles to brush up on his Dylan trivia and reflect on his own unique journey to stardom.
All About Dylan
As the two flipped through vinyl records, Chalamet showed off his knowledge of Dylan’s storied career. They discussed the music legend’s controversial switch to electric guitar at the Newport Folk Festival in 1965, his far-reaching influences, and the cultural impact that still reverberates decades later. Chalamet’s attention to detail underscores his dedication to portraying Dylan in the biopic, which has fans eagerly anticipating his take on the iconic artist.
From “Soccer Timmy” to Stardom
Chalamet also opened up about his younger days in France, where he was affectionately nicknamed “Soccer Timmy” while coaching the sport at just 13 years old. The moniker stuck, thanks to the abundance of Timmies in his apartment building at the time.
But the interview didn’t just focus on his pre-Hollywood years—it also brought up an unforgettable moment that helped shape his acting career: his knighting by rapper Lil B, a story that resurfaced earlier this year.
Lil B’s Blessing
At the 30-minute mark, Chalamet recounted the surreal encounter during a Lil B concert at NYU. With $50 earned from a commercial gig, he bribed someone for their ticket and ended up front row. What happened next could’ve been a scene from a movie.
“I raised my hand, I got called on by him, I told him I was going to ask out a crush. He invited me on stage and knighted me,” Chalamet recalled. “He said, ‘That boy’s hands been blessed,’ and honestly, from there my acting career took off.”
Chalamet credited Lil B for his meteoric rise, joking that his career “basically just included Royal Pains before that,” but after the Based God’s blessing, he found himself nominated for an Oscar by age 22.
“Shout out Lil B,” he added. “Nothing possible without Lil B. Pray to the Based God.”
