‘Squid Game’ Season 2 Draws Record 68M Viewers in First Week

Netflix achieved a milestone with Squid Game‘s latest season. Following its Christmas release, the show amassed an unprecedented 68 million views within just four days, surpassing the previous record of 50.1 million set by Wednesday, according to Variety.

The second season has already secured the seventh position among Netflix’s most-watched non-English series, measured over their initial 91-day period. The show’s first season, which launched in 2021, remains at the top of this rankings.

Season two follows Seong Gi-hun’s (Lee Jung-jae) mission to rescue contestants from the deadly competition. However, audiences must wait until 2025 to discover his fate, as Netflix has confirmed a third and final installment.

Creator Hwang Dong-hyuk might welcome the break before the final season. Speaking to Variety, he expressed fatigue from the series’ intense spotlight. “I’m drained from the constant cycle of creation and promotion,” he shared. “Right now, I’m dreaming of escaping to a distant island, away from Netflix’s calls – though definitely not one like the ‘Squid Game’ island.”
