The trial date for Lil Durk’s murder-for-hire case has been delayed.
New legal documents reveal that Durk’s trial date has been moved from January 7 to October 14, following a mutual agreement between his legal representatives and prosecutors on Tuesday.
The legal proceedings involve “roughly 230 GB of digital evidence including audio/video recordings and surveillance footage, along with approximately 20,000 pages of documentation covering murder and other violent incidents, photographs, witness testimonies, and medical records.”
The court filing states that the case “presents such unusual complexity that reasonable preparation for pretrial proceedings or the trial itself cannot be accomplished within standard Speedy Trial Act timeframes.” The document also mentions scheduling conflicts for defense lawyers who are committed to other trials throughout the year.
Durk’s fellow defendant, 36-year-old Asa “Boogie” Houston, expressed opposition to the postponement. Meanwhile, another defendant, Deandre Dontrell Wilson, aged 33, had his attorney request a “pre-plea sentence report.”
Chicago-born rapper Durk Devontay Banks, 32, was taken into custody last October in Florida and is charged with conspiracy, murder-for-hire, and using a firearm in connection with a violent offense.
The allegations relate to a suspected retaliatory shooting in Los Angeles in 2022, reportedly targeting Quando Rondo, but which resulted in the death of his cousin, Lul Pab, whose legal name was Saviay’a Robinson.
According to the Chicago Tribune, despite his legal team offering $3.3 million in combined cash and property as collateral last month, Durk was refused bail and continues to be held in detention.
