Popular YouTuber MrBeast and Thea Booysen announced their engagement, which took place during Christmas Day.
The couple revealed their happy news through their individual Instagram profiles on January 1st. “Ya boy did a thing,” MrBeast posted alongside multiple photos, starting with an image capturing his proposal moment.
Booysen posted a video in which she showed off the ring.
I wanted to include Thea’s family since they mean so much to her,” MrBeast explained to People. “The timing worked perfectly with Christmas, as they had traveled from across the globe to be here.” Since Booysen’s relatives had journeyed from South Africa for the holiday season, both families could witness his unexpected proposal. “During our gift exchange, he asked me to shut my eyes for his final present,” Booysen recounted, with MrBeast adding, “I deliberately created a distraction by dropping a big box before presenting her with the actual gift containing the ring. Then I knelt down and proposed.” MrBeast shared that he wanted to avoid an elaborate proposal, preferring a “really private and intimate” moment. The pair’s story began in 2022 when a mutual friend arranged dinner with Booysen while the renowned YouTuber was visiting her native country. Booysen mentioned being “quite taken aback” by his genuine nature. “I had assumed YouTubers were merely playing characters, but meeting him showed me he’s genuinely nice,” she reflected. “There wasn’t any trace of arrogance.”
“Meeting Thea, her intelligence was immediately apparent,” MrBeast told People.
“I found myself thinking about how smart and beautiful she is,” he elaborated. “Within moments of our first meeting, I knew I wanted to pursue a relationship with her. Fortunately, she experienced the same strong connection.”
Upon returning stateside, MrBeast contacted Booysen through X, requesting to read her upcoming book The Marked Children once completed. She responded over a month later with the finished work, leading to a three-hour phone discussion that, for her, confirmed their connection.
“That conversation sealed it for me,” Booysen revealed. “His intellect captured my heart. To me, that encompasses everything – your mind, ambition, self-discipline, and character are paramount. Afterward, he promptly arranged another trip to South Africa specifically to see me, and our relationship began the moment he landed.
