Lily-Rose Depp Opens Up About How Sam Levinson Backlash ‘Sucked’

Despite The Idol getting axed after one season, Lily-Rose Depp is still backing its co-creator Sam Levinson.

Almost two years since the controversial show’s end, the Nosferatu star is speaking up for Levinson against his critics. The show, which starred Depp alongside The Weeknd, faced major backlash.

During a chat with Josh Horowitz on Happy Sad Confused while promoting Nosferatu, Depp opened up about how Levinson was slammed for The Idol’s overtly sexual content and alleged toxic work environment.

“The worst part was watching people trash Sam, who’s not just a close friend but like family to me,” Depp shared around the 29-minute mark.

“I have such a close bond with both Sam and his wife Ashley, who produced the show. They’re amazing, genuinely kind people who really looked out for me and took me under their wing,” she continued.

Depp fired back at critics, saying it “really hurt” to see people attacking Levinson, who also created Euphoria. She insisted that the negative comments about him as a filmmaker were completely off-base.

“It just sucks seeing people bash your friend like that,” Depp said plainly.

She went on to talk about how committed she felt to the project, explaining that it pushed her boundaries and helped her grow as an artist.

“Looking back, it feels surreal, not because we didn’t expect controversy… you kind of have to anticipate that, and that’s fine,” she explained. “I’m drawn to that kind of challenging work. I’m up for it. We were deliberately pushing some buttons in society, so naturally, it got the reaction it did, but I’m okay with that.”

The drama didn’t stop there – last July, The Hollywood Reporter dropped a bombshell claiming Levinson was more focused on The Idol than Euphoria, supposedly upsetting Zendaya and causing multiple delays in Euphoria’s filming schedule.
