Travis Scott, SZA and Future Face Legal Drama Over “Telekinesis” Rights

A Roc Nation singer named Victory Boyd is suing Future, SZA, and Travis Scott, claiming their song “Telekinesis” from Scott’s Utopia took pieces of her 2019 track “Like the Way It Sounds.” The song hit No. 26 on Billboard Hot 100.

She shared that Ye (formerly Kanye West) got the song first and made his own version. Then he showed it to Scott, SZA, and Future, who allegedly used her work without permission.

“Scott accessed the original work in the studio and began making the copy,” her legal team says. “In May 2023, Scott, SZA and Future joined forces to create the copy using plaintiff’s work.”

Her lawyers note she’s credited as co-writer, and say she got offered 8% writing credit as a fix. But Boyd never approved the use, wanting to release her version on Roc Nation instead.

The suit also targets Cactus Jack Records, producer Jahaan Sweet, Sony Music, and watch brand Audemars Piguet. The luxury brand’s in trouble for using “Telekinesis” in marketing without Boyd’s green light.

“They partnered with AP to run ads featuring the copied work against plaintiff’s wishes,” states the suit.

Boyd wants all music using her work destroyed and seeks damages plus interest, amount to be decided in court.
