“Tweaker” has blown up so big it’s apparently landed LiAngelo Ball a fat check from Def Jam.
The buzz hit fever pitch Monday when The Breakfast Club started weighing in on the deal rumors, and ESPN’s Shams Charania dropped more details. Word from Shams is that the Def Jam and Universal Music Group contract comes with $8 million guaranteed but could reach $13 million. He got this info from both LiAngelo’s Born2Ball Music Group rep and his sources.
Brian Zisook from Audiomack chimed in to set things straight – this kind of deal isn’t like NBA contracts. The millions mentioned in Monday’s report are actually an advance that’ll need to be paid back through future music earnings.
We’ve hit up UMG’s team for more info. Stay tuned for possible updates.
“Tweaker” by Gelo has straight up exploded into a streaming monster. Dropped under his G3 name, with brother Lonzo getting a writing credit, the track’s already racked up tens of millions of Spotify plays. Right now, it’s sitting at No. 14 on Spotify’s Top 50 USA daily chart. That’s got G3 rubbing shoulders with heavy hitters like Kendrick Lamar and The Weeknd.
Both Boosie Badazz and Moneybagg Yo have been teasing potential remixes of this surprise banger, and its success has earned LiAngelo a spot on the 2025 Rolling Loud California lineup.
Now with Def Jam reportedly backing LiAngelo’s music moves, we’ll see if “Tweaker” ends up being one of the year’s biggest breakout hits.
