The locked-up Canadian rapper Tory Lanez is making bold claims about his influence on streaming culture.
From behind bars where he’s doing a ten-year stretch for shooting Megan Thee Stallion back in 2020, the 32-year-old shared an old clip of his 2020 Instagram Live show, Quarantine Radio. “I crawled so the streaming community could walk,” he posted with the throwback video.
During 2020’s first COVID lockdown, Lanez created Quarantine Radio, his Instagram Live show. While it got some buzz, it didn’t stick around nearly as long as Swizz Beatz and Timbaland’s Verzuz, which launched around the same time.
Everything changed in July 2020 when cops arrested him for shooting Megan Thee Stallion, though she didn’t name him as the shooter until months later. He got hit with a guilty verdict in late 2022 and caught a ten-year sentence the next year.
Latest update – Megan just locked down a five-year restraining order against Lanez, who she says led a smear campaign during and after the trial. “I want my restraining order because I haven’t been at peace since I [was] shot,” she testified emotionally, adding that she’s scared for when he gets out: “I feel like maybe he’ll shoot me again, and maybe this time I won’t make it.”
