Vin Diesel Says ‘Fast X: Part 2’ Will Wrap Shooting in Los Angeles: ‘Finally Returning Home’

The Fast and Furious saga is heading back to its starting point.

Vin Diesel shared on Instagram Thursday that Fast X‘s sequel is moving production to Los Angeles – where the franchise kicked off back in 2001. He revealed the decision came after a touching conversation with co-star Jordana Brewster about the L.A. fires.

“Last week, during the fires that displaced LA… my sister Jordana reached out to me and said… Please have Universal film the rest of Fast X Part 2 in LA,” he wrote under a throwback pic with Jordana. “Los Angeles needs it now more than ever… Los Angeles is where Fast and Furious started filming 25 years ago… and now Fast will finally return home. All love…”

When Fast X: Part 1 premiered in 2021, Diesel hinted the series might become a trilogy.

“As filmmakers, you want to allow people to enjoy the film without tipping the hat too much,” he told Fandango. “I can say this: Going into making this movie, the studio had asked if this could be a two-parter. And after the studio saw this, part one, they said, ‘Could you make Fast X, the finale, a trilogy?'”

But in 2024, those dreams of a 12th movie ended when Diesel announced Part 2 would be the “grand finale.”

“Just finished our end of the week Fast meeting with the writers and the whole team,” he posted on Instagram. “To say the excitement for our finale was incredibly powerful is an understatement. Wow. So exciting… Thank you for being the backbone of this global saga that because of you, transcends the screen. This grand finale is not just an ending; it’s a celebration of the incredible family we’ve built together. Hope to make you proud!”

Universal hasn’t announced when Fast X: Part 2 will hit theaters yet.
