Martin Lawrence confirms he’s picking up the tab for his eldest daughter’s wedding to Eddie Murphy’s first-born son.
During his visit to Sherri this week, the Bad Boys: Ride or Die actor doubled down on funding the nuptials between his daughter Jasmin, 29, and Murphy’s son Eric, 35. The pair, who started their romance in 2021, got engaged last November.
“Eddie said, ‘Naw, naw.’ He said I had to pay for the last six weddings. ‘Cause Eddie got a lot of children,” Lawrence shared with Sherri Shepherd about the dad of ten. “So he said, ‘You paying for this one.’ So I don’t have a problem with it.”
Lawrence said he’ll plan whatever Jasmin wants, but he’s letting Murphy handle the reception speech. “He’s funnier,” he noted.
He joked that if he tries to give a speech, he’ll “start crying.” When asked if he set any ground rules with Eric when they met, Lawrence said there was no need. “He’s so chill, cool–he’s a lot like his father,” Lawrence explained. “Real calm, cool, collected and just a cool young man.”
During the chat, Lawrence, who’s touring with Y’all Know What It Is!, also talked about how his comedy style has evolved, cited Murphy and the late Richard Pryor as his influences, and remembered giving Dave Chappelle his big break in Blue Streak.
Back in 2023, Lawrence told Jimmy Kimmel Live! he’d “try to get Eddie to pay for [the wedding].”
But Murphy quickly shot back at his Boomerang and Life co-star through Etalk, telling him not to change the plan. “Don’t try to change no shit, do no Hollywood switch,” Murphy said in the clip below.
