In a chat with People about her new film Mary J. Blige’s Family Affair, the R&B queen shared that she had to let go of a team member after they leaked parts of her setlist for the upcoming For My Fans tour.
“Yeah, I was pissed, and I fired someone because of it,” she said.
The Queen of Hip-Hop Soul expanded on the setlist drama, expressing her frustration about the breach of trust.
“We worked too hard and the setlist is the most private thing,” she says. “It was unprofessional. Obviously it was somebody within the camp, and they risked their whole life just to get a couple of likes.”
But fans can breathe easy – only a fraction of the show’s surprises got out. “Only a little bit got leaked, and that’s not even half,” she said. “People don’t even know what else is coming.”
The star had previously addressed the leak on Instagram stories on Jan. 18.
“This kinda hurts and it’s sad to see this leaked,” Blige wrote at the time. “I wanted to surprise my fans with something special. But this doesn’t even scratch the surface of what I have planned.”
Her For My Fans Tour launches in Greensboro, North Carolina, on Jan. 30, hitting 36 cities before wrapping up in Philadelphia on April 17.
Joining her are R&B powerhouses Ne-Yo and Mario. She told People why she picked these specific artists:
“I love Ne-Yo and Mario and I think those two guys have some of the best love songs of their generation,” Blige said. “Last time, I had Queen Naija and Ella Mai [on the Good Morning Gorgeous Tour]. I love me some Ella Mai, and I love Queen. This time I said, ‘We really need the women to be serenaded this time.’ We really need the women to feel special, and it’s time for women to feel special.”
