Academy Award winner Will Smith and Big Sean teamed up in a new video to promote “Beautiful Scars.”
The two stars recreated a famous Matrix scene after Smith teased the collab on Instagram with behind-the-scenes photos.
“Look, you’ve made some awesome career choices your whole life,” Sean tells Smith. “There’s only one you truly regret. Well… maybe two. But we’re not gonna focus on that one.”
“That’s messed up,” Smith responds. Sean then presents him with the iconic choice between pills, referencing Smith’s past decision to pass on The Matrix.
“The choice is yours,” Sean ends. Smith ponders, saying “I really like my life right now,” before shocking Sean by taking both pills. “Wasn’t even an option,” Sean reacts.
The promo arrives ahead of “Beautiful Scars” dropping Thursday (January 30), following Smith’s recent Instagram reflection about potentially starring in The Matrix.
“In 1997, the Wachowskis came to Will Smith with the role of Neo in The Matrix,” the video caption explains. “Smith turned it down. He chose Wild Wild West, believing it was a better fit for him at the time. But the question remains: What would The Matrix have been like with Will Smith as Neo?”
Keanu Reeves landed the Neo role in the 1999 hit The Matrix alongside Laurence Fishburne’s Morpheus. Smith’s choice, Wild Wild West, earned $222.1 million despite poor reviews.
While Smith never joined The Matrix series, Jada Pinkett Smith played Niobe in The Matrix Reloaded (2003), after initially trying out for Trinity, a role that went to Carrie-Anne Moss.
