Sam Asghari’s spilling tea about his marriage to Britney Spears in a fresh interview.
The actor and fitness guru sat down for Sibling Revelry podcast on Sunday (Jan. 26), chatting about his brief marriage to the pop star. Their love story kicked off on Spears’ “Slumber Party” video set in 2016, led to a 2021 engagement, and marriage the next year. Spears, now a three-time bride, and Asghari called it quits last May.
About 28 minutes in, Asghari mentioned the “Slumber Party” shoot, thinking it was “just another job.”
“And then there’s seven years worth of relationship that comes from the music video and a marriage and a lot of experiences, which I like to call it a crash course in Hollywood, which was great,” he shared.
While he never saw his marriage as “a big-time thing,” he remembered grabbing sushi with Spears during filming.
“And everything was going really well until one day, I started learning about what the conservatorship is, and things like that,” he added. “That’s when I was like, Wait a minute. Like, I thought, I’m in America.”
“What do you mean someone over the age of 18 needs permission from their parents and all this ridiculous thing? … It’s just, it’s such a ridiculous thing in this country to have to deal with.”
“And that was by far the most–I’m not going to say difficult because I don’t think anything’s difficult–That was the weirdest thing to deal with,” Asghari remarked.
They tied the knot right after Spears got free from her conservatorship but split in 2023 over differences. Last October, Spears joked about being “married” to herself on Instagram, while earlier, Asghari told People he’d never trash-talk his ex.
“I’ve always hated people leaving a certain relationship—and at some point they told each other they love each other and they sat at the same table and ate food [together]—so I never understood when people part ways [and] they talk badly about each other,” he shared with the magazine.
