Kendrick Lamar and Timothée Chalamet linked up for a ride-along chat in a new Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show promo, getting real about their creative struggles.
“In the studio, if it’s been a while, you might come off with a bit of writer’s block,” Kendrick opened up, explaining why he stays on his grind. He asked the A Complete Unknown actor how he shakes off the rust when he’s been away from the camera.
“I try to prep at home, but the thing about acting is, if you don’t have an audience, it’s just a form of insanity,” Timothée shared. “And you’re just, what are you doing? So I definitely try to warm up and then, you know, lose that self-consciousness when you finally get back out there. But that takes time. I always try to embrace failure—you were talking about that the other day—the most important part of a bad day is the way you leave it.”
For Kendrick, keeping “the pen moving” keeps him grounded and growing. “When you’re writing, man, you gotta sit and go through the emotions and be vulnerable about it,” he added. “Whether it’s a fun song or sad, or got some type of depth or not.”
The video wrapped with Timothée fanboying over Kendrick’s Super Bowl gig. “Just being a fan of your music forever and knowing like, look where you’re at now, man, it’s just crazy,” he gushed. “You just keep climbing, bro. It’s amazing.”
These two superstars might seem like an unlikely pair, but Kendrick and Timothée are both crushing it in their lanes right now. Fun fact: they’ve got the same fashion guru, Taylor McNeill, helping them stay fresh.
As Timothée revealed in another part of the promo above, he’ll be in the crowd at the big game and can’t wait to see what Kendrick’s got planned.
