Kendrick Perkins had to backtrack after throwing shade at Nicki Minaj while discussing Jimmy Butler’s move to the Warriors.
On NBA Today‘s trade deadline show, Perk wasn’t feeling the Warriors’ Butler trade at all. The 40-year-old ex-NBA star wanted them to land a superstar, and used a wild music comparison that left his co-hosts shook.
“I was looking for the Warriors. I’m thinking they’re going to go out there and get a Beyoncé or Taylor Swift, but they ended up getting a Nicki Minaj,” Perk said, making his crew’s jaws drop.
The Barbz came for Perk so hard on social media that he admitted he had no clue about Nicki’s fierce fanbase and rushed to say sorry.
“Wish I would’ve known about the Barbz before my Nicki Minaj take… don’t charge it to my heart,” Perkins tweeted. “My apologies, I don’t want no smoke!”
He doubled down on his apology during NBA Today, begging: “Let me apologize to Nicki Minaj and the Barbz. They been on my ass like pockets. I apologize, I’m a fan. Please forgive me.”
Jimmy Butler landed with the Warriors on Thursday, securing a massive two-year deal worth $121 million that keeps him there until 2026-2027. Butler’s response to all the buzz around his move? A simple tweet saying “welcome to the wild wild west.”
