Hot meme dropping!
Tems just handed the internet its next breakup anthem with her “Boy O Boy” video. Dropping on Valentine’s Day (Feb. 14), this black and white masterpiece from director Loris Russier shows off the Nigerian songstress’ Born in the Wild single in style. The video’s got it all – relationship drama, Tems daydreaming about pointing a gun at her man, and the iconic finale where she literally puts her sleeping boyfriend out on the street before heading home solo. In the song, Tems brings the heat with these lyrics:
“You’re a pain in my brain
I might stay up a little longer
You’re killin’ me, babe, I’m not playin’
You don dey do rubbish, you always do
I wonder how I loved a thing like you
‘Cause I’m not really for you”
The internet couldn’t help but crack up at the video’s not-so-subtle nod to the famous “belongs to the streets” meme. Fun fact: that viral catchphrase kicked off back in 2019 when Future (who later featured Tems on “Wait 4 U”) dropped it in a clip that took over social media.
Tems just snagged her first Grammy as a solo artist, taking home Best African Music Performance for “Love Me JeJe” in early February.
