Timothée Chalamet’s getting into the Drake and Kendrick Lamar drama.
Chatting with journalist Judita DaSilva, he broke down who the public seemed to back in this high-profile rap battle.
“I think we saw, beyond the quality of songs in the battle environment, pop culture at large got behind the Nobel figure and Pulitzer figure,” he said, nodding to Lamar.
Lamar and Chalamet got together for a two-part NFL interview right before the Super Bowl. The duo hopped in a GNX (a nod to Kendrick’s latest album) to chat about their crafts.
Chalamet opened up about how he gets into character.
“The thing about acting is, if you don’t have an audience, it’s just a form of insanity. And you’re just, what are you doing?” said Chalamet. “So I definitely try to warm up and then, you know, lose that self-consciousness when you finally get back out there. But that takes time.”
The Wonka star also dropped some wisdom about dealing with rough patches.
“I always try to embrace failure—you were talking about that the other day—the most important part of a bad day is the way you leave it,” he said. “If you can leave a bad take or a bad day with a positive attitude, then you’ve got nothing to fear.”
Kendrick vibed with that, sharing his own take on pushing his lyrical boundaries.
“I’m always locked in and always trying new things,” Lamar said. “Even if they don’t end up going anywhere.
“I have to keep the pen moving,” he added. “It’s my form of sanity. And it also has given me the opportunity to learn myself, you know, find out who I am.”
The highlight? Chalamet showing off by rapping “The Heart Pt. II” perfectly while Kendrick watched.
