“This underdog has seen his last day.”

The new trailer for Lionsgate’s Sundance hit Freaky Tales kicks off with this loaded line, setting up the wild ride ahead in Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck’s Oakland throwback.

The movie drops us into 1987, with Pedro Pascal leading the cast and Too Short dropping the narration. It weaves together several connected stories anthology-style, including an epic face-off featuring Jay Ellis going full samurai. Ellis brings Golden State Warriors legend Sleepy Floyd to life in the role.

Pedro plays Clint, who gets tangled up in what’s supposed to be a “one last job” deal that turns out to be way more than he bargained for. The star-studded lineup also features Ben Mendelsohn, the late Angus Cloud, Normani, Dominique Thorne, Ji-young Yoo, Jack Champion, Keir Gilchrist, and a bunch of other familiar faces.

Freaky Tales – named after Too Short’s ’87 classic – hits theaters April 4. Check out the wild new red band trailer above.

For Pedro, the Freaky Tales rollout comes amid an especially busy year. The Emmy and Globe-nominated actor’s 2025 is also set to see the release of Matt Shakman’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps with Vanessa Kirby and Celine Song’s Materialists with Dakota Johnson, not to mention the second season of HBO’s The Last of Us.
