One of Diddy’s attorneys, who’s been representing him since September last year in his upcoming trafficking and racketeering case, has asked to step down from the legal team.
Deadline broke the news about Anthony L. Ricco’s Feb. 21 filing, which you can check out in full detail online. In it, Ricco makes it clear that his departure won’t slow down the case, which is set to kick off in May.
“Although I have provided Sean Combs with the high level of legal representation expected by the court, under no circumstances can I continue to effectively serve as counsel for Sean Combs, consistent with the ABA Standards for Criminal Justice,” Ricco states in the brief two-page document.
Worth noting – and Ricco mentions this himself – Diddy won’t be left hanging without a lawyer. He’s still got plenty of legal muscle, with Marc Agnifilo and Teny Geragos leading his defense team.
Complex reached out to Diddy’s team for their take. Stay tuned for any updates.
Last September, Diddy got hit with three heavy charges: racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking, and transportation to engage in prostitution. He’s maintained his innocence throughout.
Just this week, Diddy’s lawyers called out prosecutors for claiming he broke the Mann Act, pointing out that “no white person has ever previously been prosecuted” in this way.
While dealing with these allegations, Diddy’s legal squad has been busy filing defamation suits too – they’re going after $100 million over the Making of a Bad Boy documentary and another $50 million because of a NewsNation segment.
