Irv Gotti’s brother Chris revealed that his sibling died after having a major stroke and avoiding medical care.
Speaking on the 2Way podcast, Chris opened up about his brother, who died earlier this month. He shared that Irv experienced a hemorrhagic stroke while enjoying Chinese food and playing cards with friends.
Chris revealed that Irv had several health problems but rarely sought medical help. “When we talk about this topic, I watched him suffer the least three years of his life – so it’s about quality of life,” Lorenzo said about his brother’s health struggles. “We all have to go at one point in time, and we just really wanna go on our terms. And Irv, sadly enough, he did go on his terms.”
Lorenzo explained that Irv remained stubborn until the end. “He just didn’t believe it and he was like, ‘I’m going to go the way I wanted,'” Lorenzo shared. “He ate a bunch of Chinese food while playing poker and had a massive hemorrhagic stroke, which is bleeding on the brain.” Irv was only 54 when he died earlier this month. The Gotti family released a statement confirming his passing, saying he’s “leaving behind a legacy that will forever resonate in the hearts of those who knew him and the countless lives he touched.”
Irv’s funeral was held at the Greater Allen A.M.E. Cathedral of New York with Ja Rule, Jay-Z, Fat Joe, Ashanti, Lloyd, Charli Baltimore, Hype Williams, Angie Martinez, and others in attendance. Ja Rule spoke during the service to honor his late friend.
“Irv is my brother,” Ja Rule said. “It’s the biggest honor you can give someone who is not your blood brother, to say they’re your brother. We started this journey together a long time ago. The man changed my life.”
He added, “I just wanna say, Irv, I love you. Everyone in this room loves you. You touched everybody in your own way. I know everybody has their moments of that with him. So, we are all here in celebration of your life. Because it will live on forever. I love you, my brother. See you when I get there.”
