ASAP Rocky’s lawyer Joe Tacopina revealed during his chat on The Breakfast Club that he was approached to “take a look” at Diddy’s sex trafficking and racketeering case, but rejected it because of his connections to Roc Nation and Jay-Z.
“I represent Roc Nation; a lot of people in Roc I’m very close with,” Tacopina explained around the 47:16 mark in the video. “Jay and [Roc Nation president] Desiree Perez, who’s the most amazing, like—bomb of a boss. Jay is amazing. You know, Jay Brown, all those people are just, like, they really are special, special people. That’s sort of family to me and I don’t think they see eye-to-eye with P. Diddy.”
Charlamagne Tha God jumped in and asked Tacopina to say it again about the non-relationship between Diddy and Jay-Z. Charlamagne mentioned how people thought Jay and the disgraced mogul were friends because they took photos together.
“Everyone wants a picture with P. Diddy, at one time or another when they went to a party,” Tacopina replied. “But when things got real, years and years ago…” He seemed to gesture that Jay-Z wanted to keep his distance from Diddy.
Tacopina worked as ASAP Rocky’s lawyer in the assault case where the rapper was found not guilty last week. After the acquittal, the attorney said Rocky and Rihanna joked in court that they’ll name their next child ASAP Joe, after him.
Tacopina mentioned he and Rocky only needed a one-minute conversation before deciding to turn down a plea deal of 180 days in jail. Rocky was facing up to 24 years in prison if convicted.
