R&B and soul singer Angie Stone has died at 63 years old, according to TMZ.
The vocalist was leaving a performance on Saturday morning in Montgomery, Alabama, before the tragic accident, a rep for the late singer told the publication. No additional details were provided.
Stone, who comes from Columbia, South Carolina, began her music career as part of groundbreaking female rap group The Sequence. The trio signed with Sugarhill Records, releasing three albums. In a VladTV interview, Stone claimed that The Sequence helped write Sugar Hill Gang’s tracks “Apache” and “8th Wonder.”
As a songwriter and backing vocalist, Stone, born Angela Laverne Brown, collaborated with big names like Prince, Lenny Kravitz and D’Angelo, with whom she shares a son, Michael Archer Jr.
As a solo artist, Stone put out ten albums, starting with Black Diamond, while her biggest hits were “Brotha” and “Wish I Didn’t Miss You.”
