‘Dance Moms’ Abby Lee Miller Defends Tough Teaching Methods, Says It ‘Hasn’t Changed One Bit’

Abby Lee Miller has zero regrets about her intense coaching approach with dance students on her former Lifetime hit Dance Moms.

The notoriously strict dance instructor, now appearing on season two of reality show Mad House, recently opened up to E! News about the student drama that defined Dance Moms. The popular series ran for eight seasons from 2011 to 2019.

Miller proudly told E! News that her coaching style has “not changed one bit.” “A plié is still a plié, a gorgeous, good, beautiful foot is still a gorgeous, beautiful foot,” she insisted. “And if you don’t have it, you don’t have it. Lie in bed at night and do the exercises for your feet and get better feet.”

Last April, Dance Moms star Chloe Lukasiaki revealed to Page Six‘s Virtual Reali-Tea podcast that Miller had “manufactured” a rivalry between her and castmate Maddie Ziegler, claiming Miller showed clear favoritism toward Maddie.

While Miller didn’t directly address this accusation, she simply told E! News, “I’ve always had rivals at my studio.”

“When you go to the ballet barre in class do you stand next to the person that’s horrible with horrible legs, or do you go stand next to the person whose leg is up there?” Abby fired back. “If you want to get better, that’s who you go stand behind and you try to get your leg higher.”

The drama from former students apparently doesn’t keep Miller up at night – she claims she’s “slept well” and maintains contact with alum Jojo Siwa since Dance Moms wrapped.
