Rob Lowe thinks Hollywood needs to bring sexy back.
During a chat on his Literally! With Rob Lowe podcast, the actor lamented the disappearance of steamy scenes. “Nobody has sex scenes in movies anymore,” he told Kristin Davis.
Lowe then referenced Nicole Kidman’s performance in Babygirl. “They’re like, ‘Oh, it’s so brave. She’s so brave,'” he mocked. “She’s brave because she has a sex scene. That’s brave now. And in our day, it was required. There’s the page 73 rule. Do you know what the page 73 rule is?”
“Back in the day, the sex scene was always on page 73,” he explained. “You get a script and you’re like, ‘Oh my God, how gratuitous. Do I have to be naked in this? Let me check.’ And you didn’t have to read the whole script. You just went to page 73.”
Lowe suggested these scenes were often added to fix structural issues in scripts. “That mid–second act — what do you do in the second act?” he pondered. “Which is notoriously the toughest sledding in storytelling: mid–second act. I know. They Blue Lagoon it. Beach under a moonlit night. But now it’s brave. So brave.”
In related news, Chris Pratt recently cracked a joke about his brother-in-law Patrick Schwarzenegger’s intimate scenes in White Lotus.
When E! News asked where everyone looks during Schwarzenegger’s “not safe for family” moments, Pratt quipped, “I know where my eyes went. I’m not blood-related to him, but I was looking at that dick, bro.”
After the joke, Pratt got serious about Schwarzenegger’s talent. “No, he looks amazing. Obviously, he’s a physical specimen, but also he’s a really solid actor, because the character he’s playing is completely different than who he is,” Pratt noted. “He created a character. And it feels natural and good. I’ve been telling everybody for years, I’ve been telling him as well, I really think we’re entering a decade of Patrick.”
“I’ve been watching him, he’s just been working hard,” Pratt added. “He’s actually a hustler across the board, not just with acting but with business, and everything. He’s super driven, and I know he gets that from both his mom and his dad.”
