Tory Lanez Doubles Down on Allegations About Megan Thee Stallion’s Legal Team and Roc Nation on “Verdict Day”

Tory Lanez repeats allegations from his ethics complaint with the State Bar of California last year on “Verdict Day,” a track from his new album Peterson.

As you might remember, last October it was reported that Lanez, who was convicted in the 2020 shooting of Megan Thee Stallion, had claimed his former attorney in the case, Shawn Holley, was somehow connected to Roc Nation (Megan signed a management deal with Roc Nation in 2019).

At the time, Holley told TMZ that Lanez’s “meritless claims” had already been “summarily rejected” by the State Bar. The outlet also reported that Holley had previously written to the State Bar stating she had “no relationship” with Roc Nation, nor was the company ever represented by her law firm.

On the new “Verdict Day” track, which includes an interlude called “Lawyer Fees,” Lanez raps that his lawyer “left me like she Kevin Liles,” referring to the co-founder of 300 Entertainment, Megan’s former label. This lawyer, Lanez claims, “was in bed with my opposition.” He then mentions “fuckery from bail amounts” and directly names Holley, rapping “only a special person could rep you and wanna dead you.”

Later, Lanez complains that his lawyer was “workin’ for my accuser and workin’ for me,” suggesting that’s “why Megan always talked like jail was certain for me.” He even claims his sentence happened “because y’all for them 10 years,” then ends the verse saying his lawyer quit “with a smile.”

Both Megan and Roc Nation are referenced elsewhere on Peterson. In another track, “My Shayla,” a Trump-like voice, likely created with AI, says “I think it’s time you let that boy outside.” It’s worth noting that Trump doesn’t appear to have ever actually commented publicly about Lanez or his case. Shortly before the album dropped, Lanez discussed these same claims during an interview with Gillie and Wallo on Million Dollaz Worth of Game.

For those who followed the extensive coverage of Lanez’s shooting case, pro-Lanez misinformation has been widespread on social media. Last October, Alex Spiro, Megan’s attorney, spoke to Complex about the false claims that Lanez had been declared “innocent” in the case.

“Misinformation isn’t gonna be an issue in the court of law where he was convicted and remains convicted and incarcerated,” Spiro told Complex. “The fact that he has nonsense bloggers continuing to spin up garbage, we’re going to take legal action.”
