Ian has answered Tyler, the Creator’s perceived diss from last year’s interview.
In Monday’s Lyrical Lemonade Lunch Break Freestyle, Ian directly addressed the situation, referencing Tyler’s former group: “Back then, I really loved Odd Future / I ain’t never sat down tryna’ mock Future,” he raps. “I ain’t wanna show no disrespect, so I kept my mouth shut and that’s not human / damn, would’ve been a dumbass thing to do.”
The lyrics directly address Tyler, the Creator’s interview with Maverick Carter last year. In that clip, Tyler criticized a “white kid, regular Caucasian man” for making music that seemed to be “mocking Future and Gucci Mane.”
“It’s not even like satire, it’s like, ‘I’m just joking, I’m just mocking it,’ but I’m like, ‘No, no, no, you can’t do—and I hold rap music so close to my heart ’cause this shit changed my life and everyone’s life around me and I’m a nerd about this shit,” he said. While Tyler didn’t name names, fans widely assumed he meant Ian, who was preparing to drop his debut album, Goodbye Horses.
Tyler also made similar comments on his Chromakopia track “Thought I Was Dead,” rapping: “White boys mocking this shit and y’all mad at me / Y’all can suck my dick / Pull up old tweets, pull up old t-shirts, all that / I’ll moonwalk over that bitch.”
