Nearing 30 years behind bars, Yolanda Saldívar, who murdered Tejano star Selena Quintanilla in 1995, is hoping for parole.
A Saldívar family member recently told the New York Post about the 64-year-old serving life in Texas. Before killing Quintanilla in March 1995, Saldívar ran the singer’s fan club and managed her boutiques in San Antonio and Corpus Christi. The shooting happened two weeks before Quintanilla turned 24.
“Enough is enough,” Saldívar’s relative told the Post. “She feels like she’s a political prisoner at this point. She’s ready to get out of jail, because she believes she has more than served her time.”
Last year, Oxygen aired Selena and Yolanda: The Secrets Between Them, where Saldívar claimed there was more to the murder story.
Before the killing, Saldívar allegedly stole $30,000 in fan club money. During a meeting where the Grammy-winner came to get tax papers from Saldívar, she was fatally shot. Saldívar then locked herself in a pickup for nine and a half hours. Eventually, she surrendered after threatening suicide. Though charged with first-degree murder, she pleaded not guilty, with lawyers claiming the shooting was accidental. Prosecutors noted Saldívar never helped the singer after shooting her or called 911.
