A newly released audio recording allegedly captures Jay-Z’s sexual assault accuser retracting her claims, with his attorney hoping this marks the “final chapter” in the case.
Quick recap: In December, Jay-Z and Diddy were accused in a civil lawsuit of raping a 13-year-old at a 2000 VMAs afterparty. Jay-Z quickly denied the allegations, accusing the woman’s lawyer, Tony Buzbee, of blackmail. By February, the accuser voluntarily dismissed the suit, while Jay-Z’s defamation case continues.
According to ABC News’ Wednesday report, private investigators met with the Jane Doe days after she dropped the lawsuit. In the recorded conversation, an investigator asks, “But Jay-Z was, you’re saying he was definitely there? But he had no part in it?”
The woman replies, “He was there.” When another investigator follows up with, “He was just there but he didn’t have anything to do with any sexual acts toward you, it was strictly—” the accuser interrupts with “Yeah.” She also claims her lawyer “was the one who kind of pushed me toward going forward with him, with Jay-Z.”
According to Spiro, the conversation between investigators and the accuser happened because “people around Mr. Carter wanted to know what happened behind closed doors.” He claims “the tape speaks for itself,” arguing Jay-Z was only named because the accuser was “pushed” by her lawyer. Buzbee denies this claim.
In a separate recording shared in the ABC report, Buzbee asks the woman, “They say that they have you on tape denying that Jay-Z assaulted you. Is that true?” She responds with “No, I never said that” and denies claiming Buzbee “pushed” her to name Jay-Z. In court documents, she maintains her allegations despite dropping the case.
Spiro insists the woman wasn’t coerced into making the recorded statements.
“She told them her truth, which was under no circumstances did Mr. Carter do this,” Spiro said. “And number two, the only reason he’s even involved in this is she was pushed to introduce him by a lawyer.”
Spiro added that Jay-Z doesn’t know the woman and has never met her, calling her claims completely false.
“The truth had to fully come out,” Spiro explained about Jay-Z’s legal response. “This person cannot be allowed to hide from the reality that this was a false accusation.”
Meanwhile, Diddy remains jailed awaiting his racketeering and trafficking trial. This week, an unrelated amended complaint named Druski and Odell Beckham Jr. alongside Diddy, prompting denials from all three. Druski called the allegation a “fabricated lie,” noting he “wasn’t a public figure” when the alleged assault supposedly occurred.
