Kid Cudi Says Next Album Is “Damn Near Dedicated” to Fiancée Lola Abecassis Sartore

Kid Cudi credits his relationship with menswear designer Lola Abecassis Sartore as major inspiration for his upcoming album.

In a new excerpt from his Hube magazine interview, Cudi (who appeared in last year’s Paramount+ series Knuckles with Idris Elba) discussed the fresh creative approach he took for this completed but unreleased project.

After reflecting on embracing collaboration in his work, Cudi described how his latest chapter required putting himself in “an uncomfortable situation” to achieve his vision.

“I haven’t created like this in a long time,” Cudi told Hube, co-founded by Sasha Kovaleva. “It’s been years. With my last few projects, I was getting beats from different people and building an album that way, but there is something about being in a room and creating something from scratch—from a simple hum—it’s so fulfilling.”

About Lola’s influence on his songwriting, Cudi confirmed he’s in a really happy place right now, giving him “a lot of things to say” on the new album.

“The album is damn near dedicated to my fiancée, every song is like a love song with me kind of confessing my love, so it was very, very fulfilling,” Cudi said. “I feel like a lot of people are going to hear this record and really be blown away by just how different it feels, but also how it still feels like Cudi.”

Cudi announced his engagement to Lola last April, telling fans “Happy Cud” was now “in full effect.” Lola also posted on Instagram, saying she “never thought” she “could love someone this much.”
