Kendrick Lamar shows up for a triple feature on Playboi Carti’s long-awaited new album, MUSIC.
Just before the album dropped early Friday morning, following a dramatic blood moon, fans only knew about Kendrick’s appearance on “GOOD CREDIT,” which falls midway through Carti’s 30-track album—his first since 2020’s Whole Lotta Red. As the album hit streaming platforms, listeners discovered Kendrick also featured on “MOJO JOJO” and “BACKD00R.”
On “GOOD CREDIT,” Kendrick references the recently resolved ASAP Relli case, where the ASAP Mob member accused ASAP Rocky of being the aggressor in a 2021 Hollywood shooting. As previously reported, Rocky, charged with assault with a semiautomatic firearm, was found not guilty—a verdict celebrated by figures like Tyler, The Creator and Spike Lee.
Kendrick kicks off the second verse speaking for “the vamps and the boogies” before quickly referencing Usher’s 1997 hit “My Way,” along with a nod to Gushers fruit snacks.
He then shouts out celebrity jeweler Elliot Eliantte before dropping the Relli reference, rapping about white-gold links and emerald cuts, with a pointed comparison to ASAP Relli.
Kendrick has made headlines for wearing Eliantte pieces before, most notably during his Apple Music Super Bowl Halftime Show in New Orleans this February.
After that, Kendrick compares himself to Lakers star Luka Dončić before addressing “conspiracy theories” with “You got the wrong person” and dropping Chicago slang: “Which one of you n***as will merch it?” He also positions himself as the “evil twin” to both Cardo and Carti.
Kendrick wraps his verse with wisdom about fame, rapping “The hate get realer, the love get fake, but when you this great, that’s how you should like it.”
You can stream all three Kendrick features and the full MUSIC album now. While fans might have expected more Drake diss content, Kendrick seems to take a different approach on Carti’s project.
Still, the “conspiracy theories” mention on “GOOD CREDIT” could potentially reference Drake’s legal actions following “Not Like Us.”
