A SKIMS mention in Playboi Carti’s new album MUSIC has sparked a response from Ye (formerly Kanye West), who was notably absent from the project despite early rumors. While Carti collaborated with Travis Scott and Kendrick Lamar (who appears on three tracks), Ye isn’t featured on the album.
The lyric in question comes from “FINE SHIT,” where Carti references Kim Kardashian’s clothing brand: “I bought that ho a lot of clothes, but she love her Skims”
Kim seemed to appreciate the shoutout, sharing a screenshot of herself listening to the track on her Instagram Stories Monday.
Carti quickly noticed Kim’s shoutout and responded by asking her to have his “niece” North West, her 11-year-old daughter with ex-husband Ye, “send me a song.”
Ye quickly responded to both his absence from Carti’s album and the request about North collaborating. He brought up Carti’s ex Iggy Azalea and their son Onyx to make his point, suggesting he was left off MUSIC because of his controversial tweets from February, which included statements like “I’m a Nazi” and “I’m not a Nazi.”
Despite walking back those statements, Ye was later seen wearing a swastika t-shirt in Los Angeles. During previous criticism, he referenced Joaquin Phoenix’s mockumentary I’m Still Here and Sid Vicious.
“I decided North won’t be doing any songs with Carti,” Ye tweeted Monday night. “How it look for me to get left off the album and then he ask Kim to have vocals from my daughter? I don’t give a fuck about none of this industry shit.”
Ye admitted he had “held my tongue about not being on Carti’s album” but felt Carti went “too far” by mentioning North to Kim.
“Nobody finna play with me,” Ye concluded.
As of this writing, neither Carti nor Kim had publicly addressed Ye’s latest comments. Meanwhile, MUSIC is set to give Carti his biggest opening week yet, with projections suggesting more than double the first-week numbers of Whole Lotta Red from 2020.
