Will Smith just got introduced to Playboi Carti’s “OPM BABI” thanks to Plaqueboymax, recently named by Complex as one of hip-hop’s most influential streamers.
During Tuesday’s stream, Max and the Oscar-winning actor chatted about music recommendations. When Max asked if Smith knew Carti’s work, Smith replied, “I’ve listened to Carti. Jaden listens to Carti,” referencing his son.
This led to Max playing “OPM BABI” from Carti’s MUSIC album, which is on track for a massive Billboard 200 debut week. After listening, Smith, who’s dropping his first album in 20 years later this month, shared his thoughts.
“I like the rhythm, I like the rhythm,” he said. “I’m a lyricist. So, in a club, that would feel nice, where you’re just vibing.”
When Max mentioned that Carti “definitely has some lyrical shit” in his catalog, Smith again praised the track (“I like the rhythm of that”) before they humorously discussed the importance of workout routines.
During the stream, Smith also jumped in the booth:
Based on a True Story, Smith’s first album since 2005’s Lost and Found, drops March 28. MUSIC is available now.
