SZA Believes It Would Be ‘Gnarly’ to Portray Storm in the MCU

SZA wants to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe as X-Men member Storm.

The singer made her acting debut in One of Them Days with Keke Palmer in January. After the buddy comedy earned $50.6 million worldwide, SZA is looking to continue her Hollywood journey, which she revealed during Friday’s (March 21) appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show.

SZA has her sights set on playing the powerful X-Men character Storm in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The five-time Grammy winner told Jennifer Hudson she “would love to be a superhero” during Friday’s show, according to Deadline. She revealed her Marvel connection runs deep, as her father collected first-edition Thor and Silver Surfer comics.

About potentially playing Ororo Munroe, SZA noted the character “comes from this whole other place where it’s the jungle.”

“So, I think that would be so gnarly if I could be Storm origin story,” she added. “I love to bring the range.”

Storm, originally a Kenyan tribal princess, debuted in Giant-Size X-Men #1 in May 1975. The mutant hero controls weather, possesses lightning speed, and has environmental sensitivity. Given SZA’s passion for environmental justice and sustainability, playing Storm could perfectly align with both her and Marvel’s interests.
