Houston rapper Sauce Walka is recovering in hospital after being shot in Memphis in what police believe was a “targeted” attack.
The Memphis Police Department reported on Facebook that the 34-year-old artist was one of two men shot downtown on Saturday. The second victim, who remains unidentified, died at the scene, while Walka was hospitalized in “non-critical condition.”
Police stated the shooting “appears to be an isolated incident, not random violence.”
Though authorities didn’t name Walka as the surviving victim, TMZ later confirmed his hospitalization.
During a same-day press conference reported by Fox 13 Memphis, police described the incident as “targeted.”
According to officials, multiple suspects pulled up to the victims, exited their vehicle, and “fired shots without engaging in any conversation, they got back into the white vehicle and fled.”
“Early indications are that the victims and suspects are known to each other. We understand the public’s concern and reiterate that this was not a random act,” the Memphis Police told People magazine. “[The department] is committed to bringing those responsible to justice and will be utilizing downtown camera footage and other technology available to aid in identifying everyone involved.”
