50 Cent Shows Up at Shreveport Council Meeting, Locks Down 30-Year Deal for G-Unit Films ‘Legacy Project’

50 Cent took a break from his usual social media antics to visit Shreveport, Louisiana for an important city council meeting this week. The rapper has already established a strong presence there with G-Unit Films and Television, plus his Humor & Harmony Weekend festival. Tuesday’s meeting aimed to expand his footprint with another building lease—and it was a success.

According to the Shreveport Times, council members unanimously approved a 30-year lease between Stageworks Louisiana and 50’s G-Unit company to create a “state-of-the-art sports and entertainment venue” in the city. The deal includes an option to extend for another 15 years.

“I didn’t even know I had to speak,” 50 joked when addressing council members Tuesday, as captured by KSLA News 12. “Somebody set me up. … This is exciting, man. I’m really just excited to be able to be here today. It’s important. This project is a legacy project for me. I don’t think I’ve done anything that directly affected as many people as this project will here in Shreveport and I’m just excited to get to it.”

50 further explained his vision for Shreveport, insisting that “all roads lead to” the Louisiana city—a point he repeated when celebrating the council vote on Instagram.

“It’s going to be that way whether they like it or not because it’s the direction that we’re headed in,” he stated. “Creatively, I haven’t had an opportunity to affect more people than I have at the moment because in film and television, there’s no age range. You know, hip-hop is a youth culture thing and I’m getting ready to turn 50 this year. 50 turns 50, 50 gotta do bigger things.”

One council member even quoted 50’s Joe collaboration “Big Rich Town” during the meeting. Check out more footage above.

And yes, 50 blessed us with more of his signature Instagram posts this week too.
