Adam Scott on Working With Goats on ‘Severance’: ‘They Just Wanna Eat Your Shoelaces’

Goats are proving to be “steadfast” but challenging scene partners for Severance star Adam Scott.

As the second season of the popular Apple TV+ series wraps up this week, Scott chatted with GQ about major Severance moments, including the mysterious goats that keep appearing throughout the show. According to Scott, these animal actors aren’t exactly concerned with production etiquette.

“Goats don’t care about cameras, and lights, and hitting marks,” Scott explained around the three-minute mark in the video below. “They just want to eat your shoelaces, and walk around, and poop on the floor.”

“They’re adorable animals. And now I can say that I’ve worked with goats quite a bit on camera,” he added. “They’re a steadfast co-star of mine.”

Scott mentioned that while the goats are “running around,” the production team can “never know quite what they’re gonna do or what noises they’re gonna make” during Severance filming.

“I think for the actual dialogue, we would wait until the goats were out of range, and then shoot whatever dialogue we had to do,” he revealed.

Severance season two introduced a new Lumon department called ‘Mammalians Nurturable,’ where goats are cared for under Lorne’s supervision, played by Gwendoline Christie.

When interviewed by GQ recently, series creator Dan Erickson was tight-lipped about the goats’ purpose in the show, refusing to “say anything” to avoid revealing plot details.
