The Bible that Robert Kardashian autographed and gave to O.J. Simpson has reportedly sold at auction for over $80,000.
TMZ reports that Malcolm LaVergne, the special administrator handling Simpson’s estate, confirmed the Bible went to an unnamed buyer for $65,800, which comes to $80,276 with the buyer’s premium included.
Kardashian signed and inscribed the Bible before giving it to Simpson the day after he was arrested and charged with killing his ex-wife, Nicole Simpson, and Ronald Goldman back in 1994.
Kim Kardashian, Robert’s daughter, tried to buy the Bible before the auction for $15,000, but Simpson’s estate rejected her offer.
The auction brought in around $300,000 total. Other items sold included a framed photo of O.J. Simpson with former President Bill Clinton (signed by Clinton) that went for more than $18,000. A replica of the former football star’s 1968 Heisman Trophy fetched $42,700.
LaVergne has said he wanted to sell Simpson’s possessions to pay off his debts to creditors who’ve been seeking money owed since his death last year.
Speaking with People earlier this month, LaVergne explained he turned down Kim Kardashian’s $15,000 offer because there was already an auction contract in place.
“The amount is why I had no choice, because why would I spend $15,000 of estate money—why would I spend $15,000 in attorney’s fees—to sell it to Kim for $15,000?” LaVergne said. “That’s a zero-sum game. That’s a bad business model. If Kim had offered $150,000 for it, we would’ve been in court getting this approved outside of the auction.”
