Marlon Wayans shared a story about how a random person once infiltrated the Wayans family group chat after his oldest brother Keenen switched phone numbers.
Chatting exclusively with PEOPLE, Marlon and his brother Damon dished about their family’s multiple group chats and how chaotic they can get. Marlon mentioned they have about four different chats, mainly because “there’s always one person that’s like, ‘Please just get me the hell out of here.'” He recalled how Damon’s daughter Kyla got stuck in one of their group chats and was absolutely furious, but they kept messaging anyway just to push her buttons.
Damon pointed out that having family across different time zones on both coasts makes their group chats even more entertaining, with people jumping in with jokes at various times. But then he explained the mishap with Keenen that led to an outsider joining their private chat.
“Then people change their numbers. So Keenan changed his number. Some new person got Keenen’s number,” Marlon told PEOPLE. “On our family group chat, and everybody’s like, ‘Who are you? Phil, who’s this guy?'”
Marlon made a guest appearance in Damon’s new show Poppa’s House, which he admits only happened because he begged his brother for work. Damon mentioned they brought in their sister Kim to direct the episode since she’s the only one who could keep Marlon on track.
“We hired Kim to direct this only because she’s the only director that can check Marlon and get him to just,to focus. His lack of focus is part of his brain. But we are making a show, and it’s only 22 minutes long, so we need to bring in the big guns. Because Kim with a whistle go, ‘Marlon,’ and he go, ‘All right,'” Damon told PEOPLE.
