Meek Mill says a disturbing childhood experience with animal cruelty forced him to “wake up to his reality.” During this traumatic incident, according to Meek, he witnessed someone throw a kitten—his own pet—over a gate.
In a post shared on X this weekend, Meek, who recently denied viral rumors about being extorted for tens of thousands of dollars, shared a story from when he was eight years old. Meek explained that he had just gotten a “new kitten” and was proudly showing it to an older man when this person, known as “Davoe,” callously tossed the young cat to two dogs.
“I always tell the story of me showing some older guy name ‘Davoe’ my new kitten when I was like 8 years old,” Meek posted on X Sunday, as shown below. “He threw it over the gate to 2 red nose pits and laughed at me! I was like sheeessshhh but had to wake up to my reality!”

Meek, who was born and raised in Philadelphia, didn’t share more details about the incident, though it’s obvious it has made a lasting impression on him. The Dream Chasers Records founder has repeatedly shown up for his hometown over the years, including about a year ago when he publicly announced plans to direct some of his music earnings toward gun violence prevention initiatives.
More recently, he voiced his support for increasing the minimum wage in Pennsylvania following Governor Josh Shapiro’s public call to raise it to $15 an hour. When backing this long-overdue change, Meek pointed to the rising cost of eggs as an example of why we “need” higher wages.

For his latest music moves, Meek recently collaborated with Fridayy on the song “Proud of Me,” which earned him his newest entry on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart. Play
