Ye Tells Akademiks He Thinks He’ll ‘Make an Album’ With Drake ‘Before It’s All Over’

The former Kanye West seems pretty confident that a collab album with Drake is in their future. This latest comment follows a string of Drake-related statements from Ye recently, including his claim (while sporting a swastika chain and KKK-style outfit) that the “Nokia” rapper is “a million times better than” Kendrick Lamar.

“You know, I sent ‘Preacher Man’ off Bully, the intro, to Drake first,” Ye mentioned while playing an ASR-10 during Akademiks’ stream Wednesday night.

When asked what happened after sharing the track with Drake – a song recently heard in the unfinished album version released alongside a short film starring his son Saint West (who also appears on the cover) – Ye hinted that his former Free Larry Hoover Benefit co-headliner wasn’t exactly enthusiastic.

“He said something like, ‘Oh man, don’t mean to, like, spoil your dreams’ or some shit,” Ye added, who co-wrote and produced “Find Your Love” on Drake’s 2010 debut album Thank Me Later. “I don’t know. He just did his thing and shit. I think before it’s all said and done, like, I’ll do an album on him.”

The relationship between Ye and Drake has taken fans on a wild ride over the years, their intersecting paths producing everything from major collaborations to the use of what appeared to be a Kim Kardashian lookalike. Last year, Ye seemed to firmly back Kendrick in the 2024 beef against Drake, though his recent comments show he’s completely flipped that position.

Regarding the KKK-style outfit, many have pointed out that Ye has used similar imagery in his past work, most notably in the video for his critically acclaimed 2013 Yeezus track “Black Skinhead.” The big difference, obviously, is in the purpose and delivery.

While “Black Skinhead” was a bold and subversive piece worthy of deep analysis, Ye’s recent era has been characterized by a much messier and often confusing approach. As a result, critics now view much of his post-Donda output as relying on shock value without clear artistic purpose.
