Playboi Carti has finished his next album, as confirmed by Swamp Izzo. The Atlanta rap scene veteran told Complex during a recent interview that Carti’s upcoming project, BABY BOI, is fully completed. When questioned about the album, Izzo simply stated: “Ready. Done.”
Swamp Izzo confirmed that Carti’s new material is fresh content fans haven’t heard yet. “He got over 50,60 songs done,” Izzo revealed. “Completed to his liking? I couldn’t say. But they’re done.”
“If I was still in that mixtape era, we’d have BABY BOI one through nine,” Izzo added. “Fifteen years ago, we were so heartfelt on them exclusives. We couldn’t even sleep until we put it out before everybody.”
Carti himself hinted that BABY BOI was ready on the exact same day he dropped his third album, MUSIC*. He posted “BABY BOI OTW” while showing off how all of MUSIC‘s tracks had hit Apple Music’s charts.
In other parts of his Complex interview, Izzo talked about how new listeners react when they hear him on Carti’s album.
“For the newcomers, the first time hearing it, it’s like a shocker because it’s not Carti in a sense. I come with a hip-hop feel. I come from the mixtape era, so I bring that element to it,” Izzo explained. “A lot of samples—of course the Rich Kidz—and just a lot of yelling and excitement over the songs.”
“For the people who are just hearing it for the first time and are not aware of mixtapes, I think that it’s a shocker,” he continued. “‘What is this? This is not what we accustomed to.’ As I look at the comments, they listen again and again. Then they get it.”
Izzo also shared how he connected with Carti. “I’ve been knew him,” Izzo said. “He’s from the city. I knew him from his work. Personally, this is something he just always wanted to do.”
