Young Scooter received a heartfelt tribute in his childhood Atlanta neighborhood.
Hundreds of mourners came together at Bessie Branham Park in Kirkwood on Thursday to celebrate the departed rapper, who died after an interaction with police, Fox 5 Atlanta reports.
Scooter’s loved ones and supporters showed up to release hundreds of red, white, and blue balloons in his memory. Atlanta rapper Ralo shared some touching words about Scooter during the memorial event.
“The biggest lesson that I learned throughout it is possibly that, you know, we were going through things before he passed and I just wish I would have fixed it,” Ralo shared. “I got to live with that for the rest of my life.”
“I love you son, and I’m going to miss you,” his mother expressed during the gathering.
Many of Scooter’s friends also spoke warmly of him, including Baby Jade who remarked, “A lot of the kids from his community didn’t necessarily have dads all the time or have that parental support, he always stepped in and stepped up.”
She added: “If they needed someone to come and shout at the game, if they needed a suit for the banquet, whatever it was, he was just amazing, and Atlanta took a really big hit with this one.”
According to 11Alive, the late rapper will be laid to rest in Walterboro, South Carolina.
Scooter reportedly died on March 25 after getting a leg injury while fleeing from police. The Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office in Atlanta stated that Scooter was found with a wound in his thigh from jumping over several fences. Police applied a tourniquet on Scooter before he was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The 31-year-old woman who phoned police claiming a woman and child were being beaten was identified as former Baddies star Demetria Spence. She was arrested and charged with transmitting a false public alarm. A judge later set Spence’s bond at $7,500.
