Punch from Top Dawg Entertainment recently set the record straight about the origins of ASAP Rocky’s hit “Fuckin’ Problems.”
The clarification came after hip-hop personality Jeremy Hecht responded to a clip from Ray Daniels’ YouTube channel where Daniels claimed the track was originally Kendrick Lamar’s song.
“Sometimes, you gotta come on somebody else’s platform and say what you wanna say or do it on someone else’s album because it might not fit your brand,” Daniels stated. “That’s Kendrick’s record, that’s not Kendrick’s brand. So, he gives it to A$AP Rocky.”
Hecht then asked DJ Hed to provide the full story behind this surprising revelation, writing, “Nah we need the actual story next week @DJHed no more mysteries.”

Punch jumped into the conversation to share what he says is the actual story behind the track. “From what I remember, Drake had the record first with the 2 Chainz hook,” he explained. “He wanted Dot to use it for his album and he was going to put a verse on it, instead of doing Poetic Justice. He also wanted to put Rocky on it.”

“So Dot did a verse and told him to give it to Rocky and to still do Poetic Justice,” Punch continued. “It worked out for all parties.”
Producer Nineteen85 chimed in with his own take on the track’s history. “The ACTUAL story is that Drake made the song and gave it to Rocky. Drake literally produced the song with 40,” Nineteen85 wrote. “This is the first time Drake publicly used the name Champagne Papi. It’s produced by 40 & C. Papi.”

“Fuckin’ Problems” ended up becoming a massive hit featured on Rocky’s debut album, Long. Live. ASAP. The track earned a Grammy Award nomination for Best Rap Song and has since gone eight times platinum in the United States.
