Billy McFarland Claps Back After Mexican Officials Shut Down Fyre Fest 2 Plans

Mexican officials are throwing cold water on Fyre Festival 2—yet again.

Just weeks after organizers announced the festival would take place in Playa del Carmen, Mexico, from May 30 to June 2, local government officials have stepped in with their own announcement crushing those plans.

“The municipal government of Playa del Carmen informs that no event of that name will be held in our city,” declared a statement shared on the city’s social media accounts this week. “After a responsible review of the situation, it is confirmed that there are no records, plans, or conditions that indicate the holding of such an event in the municipality.”

It seems the location will need to switch yet again. Playa del Carmen’s statement comes just weeks after officials in Isla Mujeres, the initially planned festival site, revealed they had no knowledge of the event taking place.

Festival creator Billy McFarland jumped on Instagram to push back against claims that the event was being canceled.

“FYRE has been working directly with the government of Playa del Carmen (PDC) and their officials since March 5, 2025 to ensure a safe and successful event,” stated a post from the festival’s official Instagram account. “All media reports suggesting our team has not been working with the government of PDC are simply inaccurate and based on misinformation.”

TMZ reports that Fyre Festival 2 event producer Nick Botero feels blindsided by Playa del Carmen’s sudden announcement.

The outlet got hold of text messages from the producer where he apparently wrote, “They [the government] posted on X, Instagram, etc giving their blessing and support and then yesterday they say we’ve never heard of them it’s hilarious.”

Botero also insisted that the festival team did nothing wrong.

“They’re just lying completely,” he allegedly texted. “And at this point, we’re not doing any event there and we plan on making it very public and showing all of the evidence. We will move it somewhere else.”

Back in March, Antonio Brown hinted he’d be taking the stage at the sequel to the notoriously catastrophic festival.

“Ayo, this AB and I’ll be performing at Fyre Fest Part 2 in Mexico, May 30th,” Brown announced in a video, according to TMZ. “Be there or be square and make sure you put that shit on.”
