Cardi B reacted to the tragic nightclub roof collapse in the Dominican Republic.
“I’m in literal tears scrolling down my timeline seeing my Dominican people being rescued some wit lives and some gone,” the rapper, who has Dominican and Trinidadian heritage, shared with her BG Secret Society community on Instagram Tuesday afternoon.

“l’m heartbroken seeing families desperately crying in pain searching for loved ones..I feel like every Dominican worldwide is in one big holy hour praying for survivors and praying for those who’ve passed to be in God’s Glory,” she continued. “For those who lost someone close don’t have sad memories – they left this earth singing and dancing and probably happy and enjoying themselves and that’s how the Lord will welcome them.”
She went on, “It’s devastating to see one of our iconic artists [Rubby] Perez go in such a tragic way. I’m grateful though our last memory of him was sharing his beautiful voice with us..Sang one last time. I want my fans to pray for everyone who was in that building last night “
At least 58 people were reported dead after the roof caved in on Monday night at the popular Jet Set nightclub in Santo Domingo, according to the New York Times.
Officials said first responders made at least 155 trips to local hospitals, sometimes transporting two to three people in a single ambulance.
The nightclub, formerly a movie theater, was over 50 years old and had experienced a fire several years back.
According to the Times, rescue efforts continue with many families reporting missing relatives. Dominican authorities are currently focused on saving survivors, with some still trapped beneath the debris and calling for help.
Among those who died was former MLB player Octavio Dotel who spent his longest stint pitching with the Houston Astros from 2000 to 2004.
Celebrated merengue singer Rubby Pérez, known for hits like “Tu Vas a Volar” and “Volveré,” was performing when the collapse occurred and was confirmed dead on Tuesday by Dominican TV outlet Noticias SIN.
