Lizzo reveals her “intentional weight release” journey has been going on longer than fans realize.
The pop star chatted on On Purpose With Jay Shetty podcast this week and around the 1:06:00 mark in the video below, she explained that people think her body transformation happened “overnight.”
“I have been on an intentional weight release journey,” she shared. “And I put it on the internet I posted about it like maybe a year and a half ago and I was like very clear that this time it’s intentional.”
While the singer has regularly shown her workout routines and healthy eating habits, she admitted feeling obligated to “show the world that big girls can also be healthy.”
But Lizzo mentioned her body changed “very slowly,” and believes that “nobody paid attention” until the difference became obvious.
“So when I pop out on a red carpet or when a video suddenly goes viral and my body is different, it appears like it was overnight,” she told Shetty. “It appears sudden. And I think that was shocking to a lot of people because now the headline is ‘Lizzo’s skinny,’ which is a far cry from the truth because I’m not.”
Lizzo then discussed her “weight release goal,” explaining she never planned on being considered “thin.” “I will still get trolled and talked about and the fat jokes will still be there, but I will be happy,” she said. “And I said that because I meant it.”
The four-time Grammy winner also mentioned she’s left a “paper trail” of proof that she’s been putting in the work to get fit, as shown in her TikTok videos.
Lizzo’s former trainer, Shaun T, recently shot down those “wildly annoying” rumors that the singer has been using Ozempic. Setting the record straight, Shaun told a TMZ reporter that Lizzo is actually “very fit.”
