“Swatting,” as a practice, is both a super annoying waste of everyone’s time in a life already burdened with the temporary nature of human existence and a potentially dangerous activity favored by apparent idiots. Now, according to multiple reports, Nicki Minaj has (once again) been targeted by such antics, though she reportedly wasn’t home when the alleged fake 911 call was made.
TMZ, quoting police sources, reported the swatting happened Wednesday night, with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department receiving a call from someone claiming an assault had occurred at the Pink Friday 2 rapper’s home in the Hidden Hills neighborhood. The outlet also stated that Minaj wasn’t home at the time.
Meanwhile, a separate report from the Los Angeles Times provides more info. According to that story, authorities received a report of “an assault with a deadly weapon” taking place, with the unknown caller claiming someone had been shot. Officials, however, apparently quickly figured out this was just a swatting incident, as responding officers didn’t find any evidence supporting the caller’s claims.
As of now, Nicki herself hasn’t made any public statements about the incident. Complex has reached out to representatives for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and Nicki Minaj for comment. This story might be updated.
This isn’t the first time Nicki has been the target of alleged swatting calls, nor is it the first time a celebrity has been hit with such pranks. Far from it, actually. In November, for example, Arnold Schwarzenegger’s home, also in the Los Angeles area, was targeted with a fake bomb threat during Thanksgiving. Like the latest Minaj incident, the Terminator star and former California governor reportedly wasn’t home at the time.
