Keri Hilson is hoping for a chance to clear the air with Beyoncé.
The Georgia-born artist made waves this week when she discussed her rumored feud with Queen Bey. The gossip started swirling back in 2009 when Hilson dropped her “Turnin’ Me On (Remix),” which contained some shade-throwing lines that seemed aimed at Beyoncé.
Though Hilson insists there’s no tension between her and the Cowboy Carter star, she revealed they’ve “never got a chance to talk” about the drama.
“I’ve always wondered what she was told about that, if she was told the truth,” Hilson recently shared with People magazine. “I don’t know if it will ever happen, but it’s something I’ve dreamt about.”
The “Turnin’ Me On (Remix)” featured some raised-eyebrow lines in Keri’s second verse about someone needing to “move it to the left,” which fans took as a nod to Beyoncé’s “Irreplaceable” hit, along with comments about having babies and being fake.
Hilson told People that the lyrics “probably were” about Bey, but she couldn’t say for certain because she “didn’t write them.”
“I was forced to sing them,” she claimed, saying her team was desperate to “garner attention” with the updated track. “It didn’t matter if that was negative or positive, and calls were made that twisted my arm into doing something that I never wanted to do. I never wanted to record it. I definitely never wanted it to come out.”
Hilson admitted she could’ve handled things better and maybe “cleaned it up.” However, she kept quiet to protect her career.
“I wanted it to go away,” she said about the drama. “I can give myself grace. I was young, I felt these people had my career in their hands, and one phone call could have ended it. That was the fear that was presented to me.”
Hilson is now getting ready to drop her third studio album, We Need to Talk, on April 18.
