Saturday Night Live reportedly said sorry to Aimee Lou Wood after she found their impersonation of her in a recent sketch to be “mean.”
Wood took to her Instagram Story to share her thoughts on SNL cast member Sarah Sherman’s portrayal of her this past weekend.
“But whilst in honest mode – I did find the SNL thing mean and unfunny xo (Felt righteous might delete later x),” she wrote.
The sketch Wood mentioned was “The White POTUS,” where SNL performers spoofed the third season of The White Lotus to poke fun at President Donald Trump. Sherman wore fake buck teeth to mimic Wood’s dental appearance.
“Such a shame since I had a blast watching it a couple weeks back,” Wood continued. “Yes, make fun of me—that’s what the show is all about—but isn’t there a smarter, more subtle, less low-hanging-fruit approach?”
Wood also posted several messages from fans who supported her viewpoint.
“I agree—everyone else they mocked in that parody was a political figure,” one supporter wrote. “The only character who wasn’t political was Chelsea, and they were obviously just mocking your looks/accent, which is incredibly nasty and totally unnecessary!”
“On the bright side, everyone’s backing me up about this so I’m happy I spoke out instead of internalizing it,” Wood shared regarding the “thousands of messages” of support she’s received.
The actress wrapped up her comments about SNL by disclosing that people from the show had contacted her. “I’ve had apologies from SNL,” she revealed.
Just a few weeks ago, Wood told GQ that she’s uncomfortable with all the online chatter about her teeth.
“I’m genuinely pleased that it represents standing up against norms and personal freedom, but there’s a point where it goes too far,” Wood said. “The entire discussion revolves around my teeth, and that’s kind of depressing because I don’t get opportunities to discuss my actual work.”
